Basic Pistol is an eight hour introduction to revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Participants learn safety rules, parts and operation of common firearms, ammunition operation, marksmanship, cleaning, safe storage of firearms and ammunition, and sports shooting activities. Students conclude the day with live-fire instruction at a nearby range.
Personal Protection in the Home is an introduction
to using firearms for personal protection. Topics include ethical use of deadly
force, levels of awareness, psychological and physiological reactions to stress, defensive
marksmanship, legal considerations of the purchase, ownership, use, and storage of
firearms, elements of a safe home, reacting to a defensive encounter, and sports shooting
and skill-building opportunities. Students conclude the day with live-fire instruction at a nearby range.
We recommend our Basic Pistol
course for families with children of at least 15 years of
age. Children are welcome to participate in range activities with their parent's approval
and attendance. Topics covered in Personal Protection are sensitive
in nature and we reserve attendance to those over age 21
Piedmont NRA Instructors is happy to accept payment
by cash or check for course registration on the day of the course.

Students
will receive all course materials and other tools during the courses. Basic
Pistol students are encouraged to bring eye and ear protection, firearms
and ammunition if they posess them. Instructors will provide eye and ear protection,
firearms, and ammunition for any students who need them. Personal Protection
in the Home students are encouraged to bring firearms,ammunition, ear, and
eye protection if they have them. Instructors will provide eye and ear protection
and firearms for students attending who need them. Personal Protection
in the Home students will be responsible for providing or purchasing ammunition
Basic
Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home both qualify as
the educational requirement for Virginia's Concealed Handgun Permit. For additional

Piedmont NRA Instructors offer additional courses
on demand, including Refuse to Be a Victim, Basic Rifle,
Basic Shotgun, and Home Firearm Safety.
Soon we will be offering a four hour Youth Pistol Program for teens between the ages of 15 and 18.
Some of our instructors also offer Instructor Training
and Training Counselor Instruction through the Northern Virginia Training Counselors.
